If you can’t get rid of the smell of rotten eggs in your home, the problem most likely is high levels of sulfur in your water. Sulfur is a natural material in the ground that water can pick up before it gets to your home. While in your well, a lack of oxygen can cause sulfur to create hydrogen sulfide gas which causes the foul taste and smell.
In some cases, the odor may be present only when the water is first turned on or when hot water is run. If you only experience this sulfur smell when running hot water from the faucet or in the shower, it may be a chemical reaction happening inside your water heater, not your water supply.
The rotten egg smell can sometimes be so strong that taking a shower because a chore or your laundry begins to take on the odor permanently. While there are no health issues drinking water with sulfur issues, a lot of it can effect the flavor. High hydrogen sulfide levels can all cause corrosion to your plumbing and metal fixtures. The metal being stripped away then deposits and stains your sinks and dishes.
